**The Role: Application Engineer – CNC Grinding & Turning**
Location: Elgin, IL (Onsite)
Compensation: $80,000 – $105,000 base salary (commensurate with experience)
Travel: 25–50% (domestic and occasional international)
**What You’ll Do**
You’ll own the entire CNC process development lifecycle for grinding and turning applications—from initial concept through customer sign-off. This is a customer-facing, hands-on role where you’ll work alongside sales, engineering, and service teams to deliver turnkey solutions.
- Review customer part requirements to determine fixturing, cutting tools, grinding wheels, and machining processes for standard and custom projects
- Develop, test, and validate machining processes that directly support machine sales
- Perform machine demonstrations, time studies, feasibility studies, and process evaluations—both in-house and at customer sites
- Lead process acceptance, installation, training, and runoff, ensuring customers are confident and capable from day one
- Provide technical application support to customers, sales teams, and distributors (on-site and remote)
- Support trade shows, open houses, and customer events with live application expertise
- Assist with prototype machine testing, including PLC and control software options
- Stay sharp through ongoing technical training on CNC controls and emerging machining technologies
**What You Bring**
You have at least 4 years of CNC machine tool experience, with a strong focus on grinding and/or turning applications. You’re comfortable in front of customers and know how to translate technical complexity into clear, actionable solutions.
- Associate’s Degree in Engineering or a Technical Certification preferred—but we’ll also consider non-degreed candidates with strong, relevant experience
- Working knowledge of Siemens, Fanuc, and Mitsubishi CNC controls
- Experience with G-code and conversational programming
- CAD/CAM CNC programming experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SolidWorks
- ERP experience (JD Edwards or similar) is a plus
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to communicate clearly with engineers, sales reps, and customers alike
