FPGA Engineer ( San Diego, CA ) 15547
📍 San Diego, California
đź’° $75 - $140
🏢 Full Time
**About This Opportunity**
You’re not just writing VHDL code; you’re architecting the digital backbone of next-generation software-defined radios. This is a hands-on, mission-critical role where your designs will directly impact end-user capabilities. Based on-site in San Diego, you’ll join a collaborative team of experts, turning complex requirements into high-performance, reliable FPGA solutions. If you thrive on seeing your firmware work in real systems and enjoy solving problems from the concept phase through integration and test, we should talk.
**Your Mission**
You will design, develop, integrate, and test VHDL-based digital designs, primarily for software-defined radio firmware code bases. Your day-to-day will involve using advanced FPGA development tools and collaborating closely with multi-disciplinary teams like Systems Engineering, Hardware, and Integration & Test. You’ll analyze system concepts and requirements to resolve functional, performance, and timing issues, working within structured development environments that may follow waterfall or Agile methodologies.
**What You Bring**
* A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s with 3+ years.
* Significant, current hands-on experience in VHDL design and a working knowledge of formal engineering development processes.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and within dynamic groups.
* US Citizenship is required.
**Skills That Will Make You Stand Out**
We’re especially interested in engineers who bring deeper expertise in the following areas:
* 8+ years of professional technical experience.
* Proven experience with VHDL design and OSVVM verification for FPGA firmware.
* Hands-on work with AMD/Xilinx series devices (Zynq, Kintex, Ultrascale, Versal).
* Knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, and Ethernet.
* Proficiency with EDA tools including Vivado, Quartus, and QuestaSim.
* A strong understanding of FPGA physical constraints and achieving timing closure.
* Experience generating test benches and supporting formal VHDL verification.
* Ability to perform board and system-level debug using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
* A track record of translating system requirements into programmable logic requirements, design documents, and test specifications.
**Location & Details**
This is an on-site position in San Diego, California. The role is offered as a 6+ month contract with compensation open based on your experience and qualifications.
