Mechanical Design Engineer – CNC Machinery
📍 Elgin, Illinois
💰 $85,000 - $110,000
🏢 Full Time
**About This Opportunity**
You’re not just designing brackets and enclosures here. You’ll be shaping the backbone of precision manufacturing—creating the CNC grinding and turning machines that power global industry. At KnowHireMatch, we’re partnering with a stable, well-respected precision machine tool manufacturer in Elgin, Illinois, to find a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to own the full machine, not just a part. If you’re ready to work on large-scale, high-precision equipment alongside automation specialists and senior engineers, this is your chance to build the next generation of machine tools.
**The Role**
You’ll design mechanical and electromechanical assemblies for advanced CNC grinding and turning machines, then support the automation integration that brings those systems to life. This is a hands-on, collaborative role where you’ll move from concept to production—working with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams to deliver machines that perform at the highest tolerances.
**What You’ll Do**
- Design complete mechanical systems and assemblies for precision CNC grinding and turning machines—think large-scale, complex equipment, not just components.
- Create 3D CAD models, layouts, and detailed drawings for fabricated, machined, and sheet-metal parts using SolidWorks or similar software.
- Develop electromechanical assemblies based on project specs, then run interference checks and simulations to validate your designs.
- Apply principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, and fluid systems to evaluate and refine mechanical performance.
- Support integration of automation systems, including pneumatics and hydraulics, to ensure seamless machine operation.
- Provide technical support to customers, vendors, and internal sales teams—your expertise will guide real-world decisions.
- Maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs, ECO/ECN processes, and design revisions, keeping everything precise and traceable.
**What You Bring**
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 4+ years of experience designing high-precision machinery (CNC machine tools are a big plus).
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and a knack for turning concepts into detailed, manufacturable drawings.
- Familiarity with automation, robotics, pneumatics, and hydraulics—you understand how systems work together.
- A collaborative mindset: you’re comfortable working across teams and explaining your designs to non-engineers.
- Willingness to travel about 10% for customer or vendor support.
**Why This Role Stands Out**
- You’ll design complex, high-precision CNC machines from start to finish—not just a single part.
- Exposure to automation, robotics, pneumatics, and hydraulics gives you a broad skill set.
- A collaborative engineering environment where your ideas are heard and respected.
- Clear path to grow into senior engin
