Technical Director / Chief Engineer

📍 West Springfield, Massachusetts 💰 $175,000 - $260,000 🏢 Full Time
**About This Opportunity**
This isn’t just another engineering leadership role. It’s a chance to shape the future of undersea imaging technology for the DoD and international allies—while working a 9/80 schedule that gives you every other Friday off. As the Technical Director and Business Unit Chief Engineer, you’ll own the technical vision for a multi-million dollar maritime portfolio, lead a 100-person cross-functional team, and partner directly with the General Manager to turn bold R&D into real-world mission capability. If you’re ready to build, mentor, and modernize at the highest level, this is your launchpad.

**Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept**
You will be the primary technical authority for the full lifecycle of undersea imaging systems—from advanced R&D and proposal through low-rate production and global deployment. That means you’ll:

- **Own the big picture:** Maintain accountability for technical, cost, and schedule performance across all programs, including customer-funded initiatives and Internal Research and Development (IRAD).
- **Build the next generation of leaders:** Directly supervise and mentor 3–6 Program Chief Engineers, fostering a culture of commitment, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
- **Drive modernization:** Lead the transition toward disciplined systems engineering, incorporating Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Design for Manufacturability (DfM) into everyday practice.
- **Influence at the highest level:** Represent engineering in high-stakes technical briefings with major DoD stakeholders and executive leadership.

**What You’ll Do Day-to-Day**
- Plan and execute product development from initial proposal through production transition and long-term sustainment.
- Review and approve Estimates to Complete (ETC), manage overhead budgets, and ensure technology readiness aligns with “Design to Cost” targets.
- Use Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and engineering metrics to analyze performance—and guide Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) when things go sideways.
- Collaborate with matrixed functional teams to ensure top-tier engineering talent is assigned to mission-critical timelines.

**What You Bring to the Table**
- **Experience:** Bachelor’s Degree + 12 years of relevant experience, OR Master’s/MBA + 10 years of leadership experience in complex engineering environments.
- **Clearance:** Active DoD Secret security clearance (required).
- **Track record:** Proven success leading multi-disciplinary teams through full product lifecycles, with a focus on cost, schedule, and technical excellence.
- **Mindset:** You’re as comfortable in a strategic planning session as you are in a design review—and you know how to balance innovation with profitability.

**Compensation & Perks**
- **Salary:** $175,000 – $260,000 (based on experience)
- **Benefits:** Comprehensive executive package including
