HDL Technical Lead (FPGA)
📍 Boulder, Colorado
đź’° $150,000 - $250,000
🏢 Full Time
**About This Opportunity**
This isn’t a role for someone who just writes code and hands it off. It’s for an engineer who sees the whole board—who wants to shape architecture, drive reuse, and solve the kind of problems that ripple across multiple programs. You’ll join a growing RF technology company in Boulder, Colorado, where your technical voice will carry weight without the burden of people management. If you’d rather lead through design decisions, tooling choices, and cross-team collaboration than through org charts, this is your lane.
**Your Impact**
You’ll provide technical leadership across 3–4 concurrent FPGA programs, balancing system-level thinking with hands-on engineering. About half your time will be spent in the trenches—writing HDL, building tooling, debugging complex issues, and optimizing performance. The other half? You’ll define architecture, guide design reviews, and help teams align on strategy so every program benefits from the last.
**What You’ll Do**
- Own system-level architecture decisions that tie program requirements to long-term platform goals
- Identify and drive reuse of IP, development tools, and design patterns across programs
- Lead technical planning, design reviews, and cross-team coordination to keep quality and schedule on track
- Contribute directly to specialized HDL development, automation, and complex debugging
- Collaborate with RF, hardware, and embedded software teams for seamless system integration
- Provide technical mentorship and best-practice guidance to engineers (no direct reports)
- Influence verification strategy, simulation approach, and documentation standards
- Evaluate timing closure, interface design, and architectural tradeoffs across multiple systems
- Support hardware bring-up and integration within Linux-based environments
**What You Bring**
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Professional experience developing FPGA designs using Verilog, VHDL, or similar
- A track record of providing technical direction or architecture ownership
- Strong grasp of digital system design, timing analysis, and hardware interfaces
- Hands-on experience with high-speed and control interfaces like PCIe, SPI, I²C, AXI, Aurora, and JESD
- Understanding of how digital logic integrates within RF or mixed-signal systems
- The ability to think at the system level and work across programs without losing detail
**Compensation & Location**
- $150,000 – $250,000 per year
- Boulder, Colorado—where the mountains meet cutting-edge RF engineering
This is your chance to lead through expertise, not hierarchy. If you’re ready to shape architecture, mentor without managing, and solve problems that matter, let’s talk.
