Construction Manager – Solar Energy Projects
📍 Columbia, South Carolina
💰 $120,000 - $150,000
🏢 Full Time
**About This Opportunity**
If you’re the kind of leader who gets excited about turning a plot of land into a clean-energy powerhouse, this role is for you. We’re a premier construction and infrastructure firm scaling up our renewable energy division, and we need a hands-on Construction Manager to own the full lifecycle of solar projects in Columbia, South Carolina. This isn’t a desk job—it’s a boots-on-the-ground leadership role where your decisions shape timelines, budgets, and safety outcomes. You’ll work with a team that values grit, transparency, and real results.
**What You’ll Do**
You’ll take ownership of solar projects from the first blueprint to the final handshake. That means:
- Leading pre-construction planning alongside clients, engineers, and architects to define scopes, material lists, and execution strategies that actually work in the field.
- Building detailed project schedules that sequence work logically—because a well-planned week beats a frantic Friday every time.
- Developing accurate cost estimates and monitoring expenses in real time, then giving clients clear, no-surprise budget updates.
- Spotting budget or schedule variances early and fixing them with practical, decisive solutions—not just emails.
On-site, you’ll direct all construction and maintenance activities for solar facilities, structures, and supporting systems. You’ll enforce the highest safety protocols with zero tolerance for shortcuts, ensuring every crew member goes home whole. You’ll also source, negotiate, and manage subcontractors to guarantee quality workmanship that meets specs. Contract administration? Yours—including change orders and ensuring everyone holds up their end.
When unexpected events hit—weather delays, material shortages, or emergencies—you’ll keep projects on track without losing your cool. You’ll partner with clients, designers, and field teams to resolve technical or quality issues fast. And you’ll build strong, collaborative relationships with owners, trades, and craft personnel at every level. Whatever it takes to deliver, you’ll do it.
**What You Bring**
- A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 7–10+ years of progressive experience in renewable energy construction, with significant solar project background (3+ years minimum in solar).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills—you can explain a complex schedule to a client or a safety protocol to a crew without jargon.
- A track record of delivering projects on time and on budget, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate.
- The ability to lead teams, manage subcontractors, and make decisions under pressure.
**Compensation**
$120,000 - $150,000 per year, based on experience and project scope.
