Senior Design Engineer - Plastics Location: Schaumburg, Illinois Department: Engineering Salary: $100K - $130K Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days on-site, 2 days remote) Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer specializing in Plastic Design to lead innovative projects from inception through to market launch. This role demands a strong ability to manage complex design and prototyping processes, delivering top-tier enclosure solutions that enhance customer value. You will be responsible for overseeing multiple projects, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that all designs meet rigorous performance criteria. Key Responsibilities: Steer projects from initial concept through to successful launch. Offer expert technical support in the design and processing of plastic components. Prepare detailed design packages and manage their release. Develop and analyze product design data to ensure compliance with established criteria and cost-effective practices. Upgrade and maintain existing product lines. Formulate test plans and manage third-party certifications. Lead the design, development, and testing of prototypes for new product innovations and create precise product specifications. Create and maintain comprehensive project development plans and execute Engineering Change Notices (ECNs). Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and refine products. Generate and release full bills of material for manufacturing processes. Identify product non-conformances, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions. Contribute to additional duties as required. Required Skills and Abilities: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. Minimum of 10 years of experience in plastics, specifically injection and structural foam molding. At least 5 years of experience with CREO/Windchill preferred; experience with other 3D CAD systems considered. FEA experience with CREO Simulate or Ansys is desirable. Familiarity with industry standards such as Telcordia Specification, TIA, SCTE, FOA, etc., and related testing. Understanding of Product Life Cycle Management, RCA, and 3D printing is required. Knowledge of tooling design and review with third-party tool designers is necessary. Experience in FRP Composite design and manufacturing is advantageous. Fiber optics experience, including patch panel and splice trays, is desired. Proficiency with MS Project, Visio, and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
