Overview
Our client, a leading national law firm with a sophisticated corporate practice, is seeking a Junior Commercial Finance Associate to join its Banking & Finance team in Chicago. This is an excellent opportunity for an associate looking to build a long‑term practice focused on complex secured lending transactions while working closely with senior attorneys on high‑value, market‑leading deals.
The role offers meaningful responsibility, direct client exposure, and involvement in a wide range of commercial finance matters across multiple industries.
Candidate Profile
JD from a top‑tier law school with an excellent academic record
Active Bar Admission in Illinois, in good standing (or ability to become Illinois‑barred in the near term)
2–3 years of substantive experience in commercial finance or secured lending transactions
Experience in one or more of the following areas: acquisition (leveraged) finance, agented syndicated secured financings (cash‑flow or asset‑based), fund finance, and/or healthcare finance
Strong working knowledge of Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code
Experience with intercreditor agreements and agreements among lenders is a plus
Meaningful law firm experience handling sophisticated secured debt transactions
Large law firm or commercial finance boutique experience preferred
Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, strong analytical ability, and a client‑focused mindset
Professional, outgoing, and collaborative approach with a genuine interest in deal work and client interaction
Key Responsibilities
Assist in representing lenders, borrowers, and sponsors in a variety of commercial finance transactions
Draft, review, and negotiate credit agreements, security documents, intercreditor agreements, and related loan documentation
Support transactions involving leveraged finance, syndicated lending, fund finance, and healthcare financings
Conduct due diligence and assist with transaction management from initial structuring through closing
Collaborate closely with senior attorneys to deliver practical, business‑oriented solutions to clients

Compensation & Benefits
Competitive Compensation: Target annual base salary range of $225,000–$250,000, commensurate with experience and market factors
Eligibility for a discretionary bonus.
