Highway Construction Management Project Engineer(Confidential Client – Do Not Post or Distribute Without Permission) Location: Greater Chicagoland Region, IllinoisCompensation: $75,000 – $85,000 annually A transportation infrastructure consulting firm is seeking a Construction Project Engineer with experience in roadway and highway construction management. This position focuses on supporting field operations, ensuring quality project delivery, and coordinating with stakeholders throughout construction project lifecycles. Position Overview The selected candidate will assist with the administration and oversight of transportation construction projects. Responsibilities include monitoring schedules and budgets, documenting construction activities, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications, and supporting successful project closeout. Key Responsibilities Monitor construction schedules and track project progress against established timelines. Assist with budget tracking and cost control activities throughout project execution. Interpret engineering plans, technical specifications, and contract provisions. Observe, evaluate, and document construction operations and contractor performance. Prepare project documentation including progress reports, payment quantities, and contract modifications. Support final project closeout and acceptance procedures. Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of assigned work. Coordinate and communicate effectively with project teams, public agencies, contractors, and clients. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in construction inspection or construction engineering. Experience supporting roadway or public infrastructure construction projects. Familiarity with state transportation construction standards and procedures. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams. Technical Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with computer-aided drafting and design platforms used in transportation projects. Working knowledge of digital documentation and reporting systems used in construction oversight. Preferred Qualifications Experience with roadway design platforms and civil engineering modeling tools. Knowledge of topographic surveying and construction layout practices. Understanding of public agency consulting standards and documentation requirements. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Certifications (Preferred) Construction materials and documentation certifications related to transportation agency projects. Safety certifications related to construction trades and jobsite compliance. Training in erosion control and sediment management practices.
