DATA STRATEGY, SECURITY & PRIVACY ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY
Location: Washington, D.C. (strong preference) | Tysons, VA
HYBRID (3 days/week in-office)
Our client, a prestigious AmLaw 50 international law firm, is seeking a talented Associate Attorney to join its prominent Data Strategy, Security & Privacy team in DC (strongly preferred) or Tysons. This role offers the opportunity to advise clients on complex cybersecurity, privacy, and technology-related matters, including incident response, government investigations, and crisis management. The position is ideal for an enterprising attorney with a strong interest in cybercrime and emerging technology risks, who is eager to work within a sophisticated, fast-paced national platform.
Candidate Profile
JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record
Active Bar Admission in the relevant jurisdiction, in good standing
2–4 years of substantive experience in cybersecurity, government investigations, and crisis management in a law firm or government setting
Background or extensive experience in computer science, information technology, and/or engineering
Strong working knowledge and/or experience with cybersecurity laws and regulatory frameworks, including:
Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification 2.0 (CMMC 2.0), SEC Cybersecurity Disclosure Rule, Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act (CIRCIA), GLBA Safeguard Rules, HIPAA Security Rule
State cybersecurity requirements and data breach laws
NIST Cybersecurity Framework, Systems and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type II audits, PCI-DSS
Proven track record of handling situations both independently and as part of a team, tackling time-sensitive crisis management challenges
Strong drafting, analytical, communication, and writing skills
Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment
Key Responsibilities
Advise clients on cybersecurity, data privacy, and information security compliance matters
Support incident response, crisis management, and breach response engagements
Assist with government and internal investigations involving complex or technology-driven issues
Analyze and apply federal and state cybersecurity laws and regulatory requirements
Counsel clients on industry standards and best practices related to data security and risk management
Draft memoranda, regulatory submissions, and client-facing guidance
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver timely and strategic legal solutions

Compensation & Benefits
Competitive Salary: Annual base salary is expected to range from $235,000-$310,000, as determined by experience, qualifications, and market factors
